Unit 6 of the Fuqing nuclear power plant has completed 168 hours of trial operation, a landmark that enables full commercial operation to start. This is the second unit of China’s Hualong One technology at the plant, a pressurized water reactor developed by China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) and China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
Besides the two Hualong One units, which are part of a demonstration project for the technology, the Fuqing nuclear power plant also features four 1GW CPR1000 reactor units, accounting to 6GW of total capacity. The plant is located on the north bank of the Quanzhou Bay, southeast Fujian Province.
The installation and completion of Fuqing’s Hualong One reactors sets China as a major global player for nuclear power development.
